Increasing product yield and quality

Based on process modelling, we help customers replace obsolete contact devices with modern designs that substantially increase capacity and improve the quality of the processed products.

Are you sure your column is operating under optimum conditions?

Over time, column internals lose efficiency due to wear, fouling or improper operation.

This leads to the following adverse consequences:
  • reduced capacity: the amount of product produced decreases
  • low product quality: fractionation sharpness deteriorates, reducing the quality characteristics of the final products; increased energy consumption: more energy is required to maintain the necessary column operating conditions.
Services that will help you optimise the operating conditions of column equipment and separators:
  • pre-design work. Input-data analysis, modelling and optimisation recommendations;
  • process and hydraulic calculations. Detailed analysis of mass- and heat-transfer processes. Load analysis, flow optimisation and checks at limiting operating conditions;
  • integrated engineering services for internals, tailored to the customer’s individual needs and requirements, ensuring optimum arrangement of internals (including replacement of internals while minimising work on the shell);
  • installation supervision and installation work.
As a single-source supplier, we perform the entire scope—from manufacture to installation—to a high standard, identify problems faster and rectify deficiencies. Quality control becomes simpler and more transparent for the customer.

About

As a technology and engineering company, Spliteks offers solutions to increase product yield and quality and optimise the operation of column and separation equipment in the oil refining and petrochemical industries. The modern plant in Serpukhov manufactures internals that improve column efficiency. Replacing obsolete contact elements with new designs improves the processing performance of crude oil, gas and blended streams, increases target-fraction yields and delivers consistent product-quality improvements.

Causes of reduced column efficiency

Over time, column internals wear, corrode, become plugged or operate under non-optimal conditions. This disrupts the column hydraulic operating conditions, reduces heat- and mass-transfer efficiency and impairs phase separation. As a result, capacity falls, energy consumption rises and the quality of products such as petroleum products, gas mixtures and solutions deteriorates. The loss of fractionation sharpness is particularly noticeable in gasoline and diesel fuel production, where even a slight deviation affects quality.

Modern methods of improving efficiency

Petroleum-product quality is improved by using high-capacity contact devices: new-generation valve and sieve trays, structured packing and distributors. These components create optimum conditions for vapour-liquid contact, improving mass transfer between the phases.

An integrated approach to increasing capacity shortens project implementation time and reduces capital expenditure. Performing process and hydraulic calculations during pre-design engineering ensures that the optimum solution is selected from the outset, while performing the full range of work from calculations to equipment manufacture and installation guarantees high-quality service for the Customer.

Monitoring and optimisation of key indicators

Spliteks uses modern software packages to calculate and select internals for existing equipment during unit upgrading. Process calculations take account of feedstock composition, temperature conditions and loads, making it possible to predict increases in product yield and improvements in quality.

Improved product quality is confirmed by laboratory analyses and industrial operating data. After internals replacement, industrial facilities report consistently improved separation efficiency, better mass-transfer conditions and lower energy consumption.

Economic effect of upgrading

Increasing product yield and quality has a dual effect: higher sales volumes and lower production costs through savings in feedstock and energy resources. Replacing obsolete contact devices with modern designs improves corrosion resistance, extending equipment life and run length between turnarounds.

Implementation experience

Over the years, Spliteks has completed more than one thousand projects throughout Russia. In every case, the increase in product yield and quality was confirmed in industrial operation. These results have been made possible by in-house production of internals in Serpukhov and a team of highly qualified engineers who continuously improve their knowledge and expertise and have extensive experience in modelling oil and gas processing, petrochemical and chemical processes, enabling them to apply a range of solutions and methods when upgrading existing columns.
